UK flight capacity to Canary Islands set to fall 7.7% in summer 2027
Early forecasts suggest fewer seats on UK flights to the Canary Islands in summer 2027. No separate figures are available for Fuerteventura. British visitor numbers remain strong.
Airline capacity from the UK to the Canary Islands is forecast to fall 7.7% in summer 2027. The early figures were presented at World Travel Market in London. Onda Fuerteventura reported them on 4 November 2026.
For anyone planning a trip to Fuerteventura, these are forecasts for the Canary Islands as a whole. They do not confirm cuts to routes serving individual islands. The report gives no separate figures for Fuerteventura. Airlines have yet to finalise their summer schedules.
What the figures show
The initial forecast covers April to October 2027. UK capacity is expected to fall by 332,390 seats compared with the same period in 2026. Across all markets, planned capacity to the islands is down 3.5%. Capacity from Germany is forecast to fall by 7.4%, or 99,121 seats.
Jessica de León, the Canary Islands’ tourism and employment minister, urged caution over the figures. She said airlines could still change their plans as market conditions and energy costs shift.
The analysis points to rising fuel and other running costs as key pressures on airlines’ plans. It also says households are booking closer to departure. This makes it harder for airlines to decide how many seats to offer.
British demand remains strong
The forecast fall does not, on its own, mean interest in the islands is fading. The UK remains the Canary Islands’ largest overseas visitor market. It accounts for 36% of tourists.
From January to September 2026, the islands received 4.7 million British visitors. That was up 1.3% on the same period a year earlier. But the analysis says travellers are paying more attention to prices as household budgets come under pressure.
De León said costs and global uncertainty were making airlines cautious. For now, the figures suggest there may be fewer seats to the islands in summer 2027. They do not confirm cuts to any particular Fuerteventura route.
