The Best Bar in the Canary Islands Is in Puerto del Rosario
Tagoro Gastrotasca brings the flavor of the Canary Islands to Madrid and wins the “T de Bares” award from Tapas Magazine
Canarian gastronomy shone brightly in Madrid thanks to Tagoro Gastrotasca, which was named Best Bar of the Canary Islands in the inaugural “T de Bares” awards organized by Tapas Magazine. The establishment from El Cerro de Tagoro was one of 18 bars selected nationwide to represent Spanish bar culture at a gala held yesterday at Forbes House.
The chef of Tagoro, Mario Yamuza, traveled to the capital to receive the accolade in person, placing the culinary project among the national references for contemporary tapas. During the event he prepared a dish that encapsulated the islands’ identity and produce: a patudo tartare with Indian tuna vinaigrette and cilantro emulsion – a fresh, elegant tapa deeply rooted in Canary territory.
The gala gathered representatives from 18 Spanish communities and territories under a common philosophy: to champion the cultural, social, and gastronomic value of bars. Hosted by Julia de Castro and organized by Tapas Magazine, the event aims to become a reference guide for recognizing the country’s top bars and to honor those spaces that are integral to everyday life and Spanish culinary identity.
According to the organizers, the awards seek to highlight “the neighborhood bars, taverns, and eateries where life is shared,” bringing together, for the first time, some of the most distinguished establishments on the national scene. Tagoro was chosen to represent the Canary Islands in this inaugural edition.
“Receiving this award brings immense joy and gives us a boost to keep defending our cuisine and our way of understanding Canarian gastronomy. We want to thank Tapas Magazine for including us in this first edition of the awards, and especially all the people who support us every day and make Tagoro possible. This recognition also belongs to them.” – Mario Yamuza, Chef at Tagoro Gastrotasca.
