PSOE challenges €31.7 million cut in Fuerteventura investment in draft 2027 budget
PSOE MPs say the Canary Islands’ draft 2027 budget cuts investment in Fuerteventura. They also report missing funding for health, education and housing.
Socialist MPs for Fuerteventura plan to seek changes to the Canary Islands’ draft 2027 budget. They say it cuts investment in the island and lacks specific funding for key public service projects.
La Voz de Fuerteventura reported the figures on 4 November 2026. The investment table for each territory shows Fuerteventura’s share falling from €141.9 million in 2026 to €110.2 million in 2027. That is a cut of €31.7 million, or 22.3%.
PSOE MPs Manuel Hernández, Rosa Bella Cabrera and Rafael Nogales say the plans fail to meet the island’s needs for housing, healthcare, education and care. The figures are from a draft budget. They are not final, approved funding amounts.
Health projects under scrutiny
The MPs say several funding lines from 2026 no longer appear in the 2027 table. These include €439,241 to improve and expand Gran Tarajal health centre and €739,241 for dialysis in Costa Calma. The urgent care point at Antigua health centre had €100,000 in funding. The local clinic in El Castillo had €30,000.
They also report no specific funding for the expansion master plan at Hospital General de Fuerteventura. The same applies to the expansion of Puerto del Rosario II health centre.
Funding for works, refurbishment and equipment under the health services management body falls from €2 million to €544,358. This is a cut of 72.8%.
The MPs acknowledge a rise in funding for the Corralejo 2 Dunas health centre. However, they say funding to refurbish Morro Jable health centre falls by 67.3%. Funding for refurbishment at El Matorral also falls.
Schools, housing and care
In education, funding for CEIP Francisco Navarro Artiles falls from €1,595,099 to €800,000. The PSOE says the funding line to expand CIFP Majada Marcial also disappears. It reports missing funding lines for improvements to the infant classroom at CEIP Costa Calma and for EEI Antigua.
The party says the draft sets aside no specific funds for housing projects on Fuerteventura. It will seek a dedicated funding line to build public housing.
The MPs also highlight missing funding for social and healthcare infrastructure. This had €1,091,876 in funding in 2026. They report no funding for person-centred care facilities and equipment, which received €1,669,627 in 2026.
Their planned amendments aim to restore and strengthen investment in education, healthcare and social infrastructure. The source report includes no response from the Canary Islands Government. It does not establish whether projects with missing funding lines will receive money from other parts of the budget.
