Mahou Defends Canary Islands Rugby League Title

After winning its first top‑division title last year, CR Mahoh defeated Club Rugby La Laguna 35‑30 in a thrilling final.

The Mahoh Rugby Club has been crowned champion of the Canary Rugby XV League for the second consecutive year, edging out Club Rugby La Laguna 35‑30 in a final that was not decided until the very last minutes.

The victory of the “Quince de la Cabra” confirms the great moment for the Fuerteventura club and for rugby on the island in general, a sport that has been growing and consolidating thanks to the dedication of this group of people.

Risco Prieto field in Puerto del Rosario once again roared with supporters, who lifted the team on their shoulders before the day ended with the traditional post‑match gathering between the two clubs.

“The final was one of the most exciting matches in the club’s history, marked by intensity, parity until the final minutes, and the team’s ability to overcome serious injuries and difficult moments before raising the championship again in front of our fans,” the club said in a statement.

The organization thanked families, veterans, sponsors, institutions and everyone who filled the stands and supported the team throughout the season, emphasizing that the title “also belongs to all of them.”

Mahoh’s first title came a year ago in a historic final against Club Rugby Las Palmas. This season marks the 32nd anniversary of the Canary Rugby XV League, giving even greater significance to Mahoh’s second, and consecutive, top‑division title.

Institutions Rally Behind Mahoh

Following Mahoh’s victory, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura congratulated the club during a visit by the island’s Sports Councillor, Luis González. The institution praised the “technical staff, players and supporters, but especially the board, for taking the sport beyond pure competition, creating community and a social network through rugby.”

The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, also joined the celebration, offering the club his congratulations “for a historic season,” and highlighting the “pride” it brings to the municipality and to all of Fuerteventura: “to see how our local sport continues to grow and puts the name of our land on the highest stage.”
