Gabriela Wiener to speak at Fuerteventura’s island library on 4 November
Peruvian author Gabriela Wiener will discuss writing, identity and social commitment with editor Diana Hernández at the Centro Bibliotecario Insular on 4 November 2026 at 20:00.
Peruvian author Gabriela Wiener will be the next guest in Fuerteventura’s ‘El escritor y tú’ literary series. According to the Cabildo, the event will take place on Wednesday, 4 November 2026 at 20:00.
Wiener will speak with Diana Hernández, an independent editor and consultant. The talk will be held in the Sala Josefina Plá at the Centro Bibliotecario Insular.
They will discuss how Wiener writes and her commitment to social issues. They will also explore themes in her work, such as identity, the body and new forms of emotional relationships. Another theme is the lasting impact of colonial rule, which her work questions. Her books include Huaco retrato and Atusparia.
Wiener was born in Lima in 1975 and now lives in Madrid. She writes fiction, poetry and journalism. Her work has been translated into English, Portuguese, Polish, German, French and Italian. She also won Peru’s National Journalism Award for a report on a case of gender-based violence.
The library runs ‘El escritor y tú’, and journalist Eloy Vera curates the series. It began in 2013 and has since welcomed nearly 50 authors for reading, conversation and reflection. Past guests include Almudena Grandes, Elvira Lindo, Javier Cercas and Fernando Aramburu.
The Cabildo’s announcement gives the time and venue. It does not say how to attend or whether booking is needed.
