Fuerteventura short film festival offers €1,500 in prizes, with entries due 13 November
A film shot on a phone about Tindaya’s witches launches the call for entries to Fuerteventura’s myths and legends festival. Entries close on 13 November 2026.
The Fuerteventura Film Commission has released a short film shot entirely on a mobile phone. It aims to encourage entries to its second short film festival, which focuses on the island’s myths and legends. The competition offers €1,500 in prizes. Entries close on 13 November 2026 at 23:59 Canary Islands time.
The new film, Anatomía de una bruja, was made with Fuerteventura production company Árida Films. It is not part of the competition selection. Shot in natural outdoor settings on the island, it aims to show that entrants can make a short film with equipment they already have access to.
The film draws on the legend of the witches of Tindaya. In the island’s oral tradition, the witches gathered on the mountain on moonlit nights. They danced and flew to America, then returned before dawn. The film can be watched on YouTube.
Who can enter and what to submit
Entry is free and open to anyone, with no age or residence restrictions. There is no limit on the number of films each filmmaker can enter. Under-18s need permission from a parent or legal guardian.
Films must explore Fuerteventura’s popular stories. The organisers suggest the witches of Tindaya, the light of Mafasca, and the giants Guise and Ayose as starting points. Other island legends are also welcome.
Entries must be no longer than 15 minutes, including credits. They must be in Spanish or have Spanish subtitles. A resolution of 1080p is recommended. There are no restrictions on format, style or year of production.
Submit entries through the festival website. Use a YouTube, Vimeo or Drive viewing link that opens without a request for permission. The full rules are also available on the website.
