Fuerteventura PP candidate proposes tax cuts for housebuilding and self-build homes

Senate candidate Esther Hernández Marrero proposes housing tax incentives in Fuerteventura but gives no rates or timetable.

Esther Hernández Marrero has proposed tax cuts and incentives for housebuilding and self-build homes to help tackle the housing shortage. She is the Partido Popular’s candidate to represent Fuerteventura in the Spanish Senate.

Noticias Fuerteventura reported her statement on 4 November 2026. Hernández pledged to press for the measures if elected to the Senate. This is a political pledge, not an approved tax cut. It is not a housing support scheme open for applications.

What is being proposed?

Hernández called for tax incentives, the release of public land for housing and simpler procedures. She argued that these steps should help provide more homes and ease pressure on the housing market. Young people and households on low or middle incomes would take priority.

She also cited a proposal by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the PP leader and candidate for prime minister. He proposes building one million new homes across Spain, with public bodies working together. That figure is a national aim, not an allocation for Fuerteventura.

Hernández criticised the housing policies of Pedro Sánchez’s government. She argued that Spain’s Housing Law 12/2023 had led to homes being withdrawn from the traditional rental market. The report gives no independent evidence for that claim.

For residents thinking of building a home, the statement gives no proposed tax rates or rules on who would qualify. It also gives no timetable for putting the measures into effect. It does not set out what savings, if any, an individual project could receive.
