Fuerteventura news outlet reports calls for legal action over airport coverage

Noticias Fuerteventura says social media linked to La Oliva councillor Toni Pereira called for legal action over its coverage of an October landing at El Matorral.

Noticias Fuerteventura has reported calls for legal action against it over its coverage of a landing at Fuerteventura Airport. The calls appeared on social media linked to La Oliva councillor Antonio ‘Toni’ Pereira.

The outlet published its report on 2 November 2026. It said Pereira’s Facebook page had called for action against it over its coverage of footage from El Matorral. The footage showed a light aircraft landing while an Airbus was on the runway.

The landing took place in October, according to the report. Noticias Fuerteventura said its earlier coverage used footage from Lanzarote Web Cam. That source described the situation as unusual and dangerous. This was the source’s view, not an official finding on the procedure.

Pereira is a Partido Popular councillor in La Oliva. He is also a businessman in the hotel and catering sector in northern Fuerteventura. The outlet also linked Puerto del Rosario councillor Miguel Felipe Rastrero to the social media discussion.

The report does not confirm that a formal complaint or court claim has been filed. Nor does it give a detailed response from Pereira on the proposed grounds for legal action.

Noticias Fuerteventura asked the relevant authorities to clarify whether the airport procedure was correct. Its article gives no official ruling on that question. It therefore leaves two issues unresolved: whether the manoeuvre was safe and whether any legal action has been taken.
