Corralejo II health centre included in Canary Islands’ €5.245 billion health budget for 2027

The 2027 health budget, presented on 5 November, names Corralejo II as a priority but gives no separate funding or timetable for the centre.

Corralejo II health centre is a priority in the Canary Islands’ €5.245 billion health budget for 2027. Health minister Esther Monzón presented the budget to the regional parliament on 5 November 2026.

The centre is the specific project named for Fuerteventura in the announcement. However, no separate funding amount, building timetable or opening date was given for Corralejo II.

What the budget includes

The health budget is €412 million higher than in 2026, a rise of 8.53%. Across the Canary Islands, €142.2 million is set aside for buildings and equipment. This covers hospital projects, health centres and diagnostic equipment. Corralejo II is listed alongside health centre projects on several other islands.

The wider budget also includes €8.8 million to refurbish and equip health centres. A further €12 million is set aside for radiology equipment. The announcement does not say how much of either sum would go to Fuerteventura.

More funding for primary care and waiting lists

Primary care funding is set to rise by 11.2% to €1.655 billion. This is 31.5% of planned health spending in 2027. Hospital care will receive €3.344 billion, up 8.4%.

Monzón said cutting waiting lists remained a key goal. The Plan Activa programme aims to reduce these lists. It will receive €31.4 million, up 10.7% on 2026.

Staff spending is set to reach €2.873 billion, a rise of 9.6%. The minister said this includes a planned 4.5% pay increase for 2027. She also set out plans to recruit at least 300 more doctors and medical specialists. These recruits are completing their residency training.

These funding plans cover the whole of the Canary Islands. The announcement does not say how many extra staff, appointments or services Fuerteventura would receive.
