Afghan journalist Khadija Amin to speak at Fuerteventura’s island library on 9 November

Khadija Amin will join the ‘Voces desde la frontera’ series at Fuerteventura’s Centro Bibliotecario Insular on Monday 9 November at 20:00.

Afghan journalist and activist Khadija Amin will speak at Fuerteventura’s Centro Bibliotecario Insular on Monday 9 November 2026. Her talk is part of the ‘Voces desde la frontera’ series. It starts at 20:00 in the Sala Josefina Plá. She will be in conversation with Javier Sánchez, a journalist at Revista 5W.

Amin left Afghanistan in 2021 after the Taliban returned to power. According to Diario de Fuerteventura, she fled Kabul because she feared being killed for opposing the Taliban.

Her work looks at exile, women’s rights and her struggle to rebuild her life. Her film ¿Dónde están mis hijos? follows her attempts to regain contact with her three children. Her former husband prevents her from seeing them.

She also co-wrote Sin velo: Una mujer libre contra los talibanes with journalist Mónica Nion. The book tells her life story, covering forced marriage, motherhood and Taliban oppression. It also describes her life as a refugee.

Writing about exile and human rights

In 2026, Amin and Colombian journalist Andrea Aldana shared their experiences in Exilio y palabra. The 146-page book is part of Revista 5W’s Voces collection. The authors write about their own experiences of exile and violence. They also explore how these affect politics and society.

The library’s ‘Voces desde la frontera’ series focuses on human rights and migration at borders. The Centro Bibliotecario Insular organises the series. The library is part of the island’s culture department. Journalist Eloy Vera coordinates the series.
